Approved Training Organisation (ATO)
Sky Trails opened Zambia's second ever operational Approved Training Organisation (ATO) in January 2023 offering a full Private Pilots License course. Since then 5 students have completed the private license course and obtained their PPL.
We train on a collection of different Cessna C172s, including a more advanced R172K Hawk XP. Our instructors have vast and wide ranging experience, putting our training ahead of many "factory production line" schools found these days and employing newly qualified pilots as teachers. We are geared up to do training at a pace and at a time that suit the student. Our previous students all completed their licenses in under 60 hours of training most with just over the minimum 40 hours.
Lusaka provides an excellent training environment with reliable weather, and Air Traffic Control but in quiet airspace. As students advance through their training there are smaller and varied runways available nearby to ensure that graduates are well equipped to tackle the runways and flying conditions they will meet later in the real world!

Zambia’s First
Helicopter Flight School
Sky Trails is proud to be the first approved helicopter flight school in Zambia, marking an exciting milestone for aviation training in the country.
Based in Lusaka, our helicopter training programme offers aspiring pilots the opportunity to complete their Private Pilot Licence – Helicopter (PPL-H) using our Robinson R44 training helicopters. This programme provides high-quality, locally based helicopter flight training, allowing students to develop the skills and experience needed to begin their journey as helicopter pilots.
The introduction of helicopter flight training represents an important step forward for Zambian civil aviation, strengthening local training opportunities and reducing the need for students to travel abroad to begin their aviation careers.
At Sky Trails, we are proud to be part of this next chapter in Zambia’s aviation development and to support the growth of the country’s future pilots.
